Monster Hunter Wilds Hands-On: 25 Hours In the Living Sandstorms

Living, Breathing Food Chains in the Windward Plains

Our extended 25-hour hands-on preview with the latest build of *Monster Hunter Wilds* on PS5 Pro left no doubt: Capcom has crafted the most organic, terrifying fantasy ecosystem ever committed to interactive media.

In previous games, monsters operated largely as isolated boss arenas with patrol paths. In Wilds, ecosystems exist in constant friction. When a severe electrical sandstorm swept across the desert, we witnessed a pack of Doshaguma scatter in panic as an apex Rey Dau descended from lightning-charged clouds to hunt an injured juvenile.

Focus Mode: The Mechanical Evolution

The headline addition to the classic combat loop is **Focus Mode**, activated by holding the left trigger. It allows hunters to aim weapon strikes with directional precision, targeting lacerated flesh wounds caused by repeated attacks. Shattering these wounds triggers massive stagger animations and extra material drops, adding a layer of surgical precision that elevates the combat above *World* and *Rise*.
